REC Caucasus Engages Visitors in Environmental Activities at Europe Day 2026 in Tbilisi

On 9 May 2026, the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus) joined the Europe Day celebrations at Expo Georgia in Tbilisi, welcoming visitors to a series of interactive activities focused on environmental awareness, clean air, and individual action.

Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, Europe Day 2026 marked more than 30 years of partnership between the European Union and Georgia. The event welcomed more than 22,000 visitors and brought together EU Member States, EU-funded projects, Georgian partners, civil society organisations, entrepreneurs, and the wider public for a vibrant day dedicated to cooperation, shared values, and people-to-people connections.

Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to explore the diverse areas of EU–Georgia cooperation through interactive project stands, discussions, cultural performances, educational activities, and entertainment. The event provided a space for people of all ages to learn more about initiatives supported by the European Union in Georgia and to engage directly with the organisations and partners working across different sectors.

REC Caucasus welcomed around 1,000 visitors to its stand, where environmental topics were presented through practical and engaging activities designed for both children and adults. Visitors calculated their carbon footprints, explored how everyday choices affect the environment, and contributed to the creation of a colourful city inspired by the vision of cleaner air and healthier urban spaces.

Participants also received practical information and advice on air quality, including ways to better understand, monitor, and contribute to improving the quality of the air around them. By combining environmental information with hands-on activities, the REC Caucasus stand encouraged visitors to consider the connection between individual behaviour, environmental challenges, and the well-being of communities.

The strong interest and participation throughout the day demonstrated the value of creating accessible and engaging opportunities for people to learn about environmental issues. Rather than simply receiving information, visitors were encouraged to actively participate, ask questions, exchange ideas, and reflect on the role that each person can play in contributing to a healthier environment.

Through its participation in Europe Day, REC Caucasus highlighted the importance of public awareness and engagement in addressing environmental challenges. The event also provided a valuable opportunity to connect directly with people of different ages and backgrounds and to demonstrate how informed everyday choices and collective action can contribute to cleaner air, healthier communities, and a more sustainable future.
